A unique dedifferentiated tumor of the retroperitoneum

چکیده
BACKGROUND Dedifferentiated liposarcomas represent heterogeneous tumors with lipomatous and nonlipomatous elements starkly juxtaposed. It is thought that the high grade nonlipomatous elements of the tumor portend a worse prognosis. CASE PRESENTATION A 19.8 kg heterogeneous retroperitoneal tumor was successfully and completely resected. Because of its extent, no additional treatment modalities were practicable. The tumor soon recurred. The recurrent tumor differed from the primary tumor in that it was more homogeneous, consisting mainly of nonlipogenic, calcific tissue. CONCLUSIONS Dedifferentiated liposarcomas are known to have a very high recurrence rate. The biological behavior of dedifferentiated liposarcomas is likely dictated by the most aggressive element of these heterogeneous tumors.

Dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the retroperitoneum with osteosarcomatous component
Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft-tissue sarcomas and classified as five groups. Dedifferentiated liposarcoma includes multiple elements such as solid tissue, adipose tissue and calcified tissue, which is different from common liposarcoma in tissue constitue. Dedifferentiation to osteosarcoma is rarely described in the literature. We reported the radiological and pathological findings ...
متن کاملDedifferentiated Liposarcoma of the Retroperitoneum with Extensive Leiomyosarcomatous Differentiation and β-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Production
Dedifferentiated liposarcomas may display a variety of "heterologous" lines of differentiation, including osseous, vascular, skeletal, and/or smooth muscular. There have been six previously reported examples of leiomyosarcomas associated with high levels of serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) production, comprised of cases originating from the retroperitoneum, spermatic cord, small intesti...
متن کاملDedifferentiated Liposarcoma in the Retroperitoneum in an Atomic Bomb Survivor: Report of a Case
A 76-year-old Japanese man was admitted to Kosei-Nenkin Hospital (Osaka, Japan) in November 2006; his chief complaint was a 10-kg loss in body weight over 3 months prior to admission. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) and dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed three masses in the retroperitoneum. The patient subsequently underwent surgery. The final histopathological diagnosis of tumo...
متن کاملFocal rhabdomyosarcomatous differentiation in primary liposarcoma.
A unique case of primary myxoid liposarcoma of the thigh, in which focal pleomorphic areas were present containing rhabdomyoblasts, is described. Focal rhabdomyosarcoma in liposarcoma has only rarely been reported previously and only in dedifferentiated liposarcomas of the retroperitoneum. All but one have been recurrences with rhabdomyoblasts being absent in the primary liposarcoma. As rhabdom...
متن کاملDedifferentiated liposarcoma of the retroperitoneum.
A dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the retroperitoneum is an extremely rare tumor. A 51-year old man was admitted to our department because a retroperitoneal mass was seen on abdominal computed tomography at another hospital. Computed tomography of the abdomen and magnetic resonance imaging showed a large pelvic mass located in the right hemipelvis, and it was pushing the right ureter and invadi...
